Treynor board approves on-site therapy MOU, adopts policy and sets public hearings

At its Feb. 10 meeting the Treynor Community School District board approved an MOU to bring a Family Connections therapist to elementary students, adopted Policy 605.8/605.8R1, set public hearings for the school calendar and property tax, approved personnel actions and joined the county hazard mitigation plan.
The Treynor Community School District Board of Education met Feb. 10, 2025, in the high school flex room and approved a package of personnel, policy and planning actions affecting mental-health services, district policy and emergency planning. Mr. Dreyer opened the meeting and read the district mission: "The goal of Treynor School Board of Education is that every child succeeds."
The board unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with Family Connections to provide a therapist at the elementary school for roughly six hours per week to serve students with trauma-related or intensive mental-health needs. The MOU sets a $70-per-hour rate; district officials said the cost would be avoided if the therapist could bill insurance or Medicaid. The motion to enter the MOU passed 5-0 after a motion by Mr. Dreyer and a second by Mr. Christensen.
The board also completed the second reading and adopted Policy 605.8 and its accompanying regulation (605.8R1). Ms. Olson moved for adoption and Mr. Stogdill seconded; the motion passed 5-0. The board approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting, which included routine financial items and personnel actions: the board accepted the resignation of Alex Herrington (JH football) and approved hires including Brooke Curtis and Janine Cooper (elementary teachers), Jeff Schrage (head softball coach) and Cheryl Dodds (part-time paraeducator). The consent agenda passed 5-0 on a motion by Mr. Dreyer.
On scheduling and public engagement, the board set a public hearing on the 2025–26 school calendar for March 10, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., and set the first property tax public hearing for March 24, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.; a second property-tax hearing was proposed for April 7, 2025. The calendar hearing motion was made by Mr. Stogdill and seconded by Ms. Olson; the property-tax hearing motion was made by Mr. Dreyer and seconded by Mr. Christensen. Both motions passed 5-0.
The board approved a resolution to join the Pottawattamie Countywide Hazard Mitigation Plan, which the district noted will make it eligible for state and federal mitigation funding without requiring creation of a separate district plan. Mr. Christensen moved to approve the resolution and Mr. Dreyer seconded; the motion passed 5-0.
The board also approved the early graduation of student Alexis Labs on the recommendation presented; Ms. Olson moved and Mr. Stogdill seconded the motion, which carried 5-0.
Superintendent and committee reports included SIAC and Preschool Input Group updates; discussion of Transitional Kindergarten priorities and an athletic trainer draft for 2025–26 were noted. The board set a work session for March 10 (5 p.m.) and its next regular meeting for March 10 (6:30 p.m.) and adjourned at 8:18 p.m.
