Jesup board hears summer construction update, approves curriculum purchase and major drainage bid

The Jesup Community School District Board of Directors on July 14 reviewed summer construction work and approved a set of consent items that included curriculum and facilities contracts.

Superintendent Kohagen told the board the district is completing window and flooring projects, prepping classrooms, improving parking areas and the sports complex, and updating technology, signage and branding ahead of the 2025–26 school year. He also noted the board's next regular meeting on Aug. 11, 2025.

The board approved the consent agenda, which included a purchase of a middle-school history curriculum from Savvas Learning Co. for $37,674.30 and Change Order #17 for $26,817.80. The board also accepted a bid from Jesup Land Improvement for $122,803.65 to address drainage and tile work; the minutes indicate that work will be funded from the district's Legacy Fund. The motion carried unanimously, with Director Miller moving and Director Youngblut seconding. The consent action also covered July claims, June financials and transportation reports, four open-enrollment applications from Waterloo, an AEA services contract, other handbooks and manuals, and personnel items including listed resignations and recommended hires. The Student Handbook was held out of the consent approval for separate consideration.

The meeting packet listed several personnel changes approved by the board, including coaching and mentor positions and PLC facilitators; the item names were recorded in the minutes as recommended hires and resignations. The minutes do not record additional discussion on the hires or the curriculum purchase.

The board's approval moves those purchases and the drainage contract into the implementation phase; the minutes do not list expected start dates or payment schedules for the approved contracts.
