At the June 23 meeting, Hayden law enforcement presented crime statistics noting two recent incidents classified as rape — one tied to a school trip and another involving online contact between parties — and an active homicide investigation stemming from a vehicle crash. The lieutenant said the city’s reported numbers can reflect classification conventions and that these incidents are isolated in Hayden.
The department also reported an increase in thefts, primarily at large chain stores, and said factors such as loss prevention activity and how retailers pursue in‑house resolutions versus police involvement influence reported counts. Council members asked clarifying questions about classification and whether cases remain under investigation; staff confirmed the homicide is an active investigation and that rape cases may be part of ongoing inquiries.
Council thanked the department for the report and for its partnership in keeping the community safe. The report did not include a request for action; council moved on to other items.
