Kanawha schedules sidewalk repairs and water-system adjustments; chlorine installation awaits DNR permit

Superintendent of Public Works Ryan Oleson told the Kanawha City Council that the county auditor identified damaged sidewalks in front of City Hall that must be repaired before the mid-term election. Oleson said crews will patch holes and grind down lips; the superintendent added that additional sidewalk repairs are needed near the old Miller building and that the city will collect quotes for that work.
Oleson reported water-operations updates: staff will transfer treatment operations from the primary chlorine cell to Cell 2 in preparation for an April drawdown, and Grade 2 water-treatment classes for staff begin in April. He said the planned installation of liquid chlorine equipment is contingent on the city receiving a construction permit from the DNR.
On signs, the council accepted a quote from Newman for street-sign replacement on the condition the city applies for an Aureon Charity Grant to help cover the cost; Tim Lodin moved the measure, Chad Lang seconded and the motion carried.
The council directed staff to collect sidewalk-repair quotes and to pursue the DNR permit and grant application. No timeline beyond the stated April preparation and the electoral deadline was provided in the minutes.
