Kalona council approves liquor licenses, a chicken permit and recognizes road-use report; bills allowed

The Kalona City Council on Aug. 19 approved a suite of routine business items including alcohol-license renewals, a residential chicken permit, recognition of the city’s Road Use Report and payment of bills.
The council approved Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division renewals for Tequila Grill (Class C retail alcohol license with a Class A beer sub-permit and outdoor services) and Tequila Wine & Spirits (Class E retail alcohol license) on a motion by Spitzer, seconded by G Schmidt; the motion carried with all voting yes.
Separately, the council reviewed and approved a chicken-keeping application for 502 7th Street; motion by G Schmidt, seconded by Bender, carried with all voting yes. (A separate chicken application for 707 F Avenue was tabled earlier in the meeting.)
Councilmembers recognized the completed 2023–2024 Road Use Report on a motion by Bender, seconded by Spitzer.
The meeting record also shows the council allowed payment of a list of bills and recorded transfers and deposits across funds; among items listed were a $16,050.83 transfer to Water ACH and a $17,501.02 deposit to the Water Fund, plus multiple vendor payments listed in the council packet.
