The board took several administrative and policy actions during the Dec. 8 organizational meeting.
Financial and legal appointments: The board designated FSB as the depository for all district funds with a maximum deposit limit of $25 million and named UMB as depository for certain debt service funds with a $5 million maximum deposit. The board also approved Ahlers Cooney Law Firm as potential legal representation for 2026 and designated the Independence Bulletin Journal as the district’s legal publication for notices.
Policies and forms: The board approved the Modified Allowable Growth—Dropout Prevention (MAG-DOP) plan and the corresponding At-Risk application (see related article). It approved Wellness Policy 507.09 goals and action/progress reporting, and updated Facility Usage policy 905.1 and form 905.1E1, waiving the second reading.
Leave language change: The board reviewed recommendation language from the Labor Management Committee to modify leave policy to include child state parental leave. The motion to approve that change passed with three ayes (Miller, Trumbauer, Youngblut) and one nay (Masteller). The transcript records the three named ayes and Masteller as the lone no vote.
Facility use: The board approved a requested facility usage for the Heartland Technology annual meeting.
Personnel and other motions were handled through the consent agenda earlier in the meeting.
