Kalona council approves agenda changes, routine minutes and bills; recognizes $61,972 in riverboat funds

The Kalona City Council met July 15 at City Hall and approved its agenda after tabling several items, including a planned presentation on the 2024 100k Horseshoe Gravel Bike Race and proposed changes to the city’s chicken permit policy.
Mayor Mark Robe presided. The agenda approval motion was made by Council Member Spitzer and seconded by Council Member Bender; the council recorded that all voted yes.
The council then approved the minutes of its July 1 meeting on a motion by G. Schmidt, seconded by Bender. The minutes were approved and published.
On a motion by Beisheim, seconded by G. Schmidt, the council allowed the bills submitted in the packet. The packet listed vendor payments and transfers that included a General transfer to Water (ACH) of $17,787.77; large vendor payments such as Johnson County Refuse ($17,545.55), Itron ($7,489.22), and Wellman Blue Cross & Blue Shield ($7,791.73); contract and planning payments including Impact7G ($5,738.16) and MSA Professional Services ($3,114.97); and numerous library board and supply items. The motion carried with all voting yes.
Council members recognized $61,972.13 in second-quarter Washington County Riverboat funds. The council directed staff to send an acknowledgment to Washington County and said the funds will be applied to council-approved, budgeted projects.
The meeting proceeded through other consent-business items and was then adjourned. The minutes were signed by City Clerk Sarah Chmelar and Mayor Mark Robe.
