Grundy Center council approves consent items, advances mobile-vendor and special-events ordinances to first reading

The Grundy Center City Council approved routine consent business and moved two ordinances forward at its Sept. 22, 2025 meeting.
Mayor Paul Eberline called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the council, with members Mcdonald, Kuester, Smith and Lamp present (Rasmussen absent), unanimously approved the evening's agenda. Council actions included approval of the minutes from the Sept. 8 meeting; issuance of the annual liquor license for South Porch Cider Co., 625–627 G Avenue; authorization to publish the FY2025 Annual Financial Report and submit it to the State of Iowa by Dec. 1, 2025; and approval of an open burning notice for yard waste only from Oct. 13 through Nov. 30, 2025.
The council also approved street closures requested by Grundy Center High School for the homecoming parade on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, from 1:45–2:30 p.m.; the approved route is M Avenue to H Avenue to 7th Street and back to M Avenue. The motion to approve the parade street closures was made by Council member Smith and seconded by Council member Lamp; all four members voted aye.
City Clerk Kristy Sawyer reported draft updates to Ordinance 586 (Chapter 125, Mobile Food Service Vendor) and Ordinance 587 (Chapter 126, Special Events), noting specific language revisions related to alcoholic beverages, LP gas and generator usage. The council opened and closed a public hearing on the two ordinances; there were no public comments. By unanimous procedural votes the council completed the first reading of both ordinances and advanced them for further consideration at a later meeting. No final adoption occurred at this meeting.
Financial activity for August 2025 was presented in the meeting record. Expenditures by fund included General: $152,548; Road Use Tax: $197,111; Employee Benefits: $32,410; Local Option Sales Tax: $26,388; Water Fund: $62,927; Sanitary Sewer Fund: $23,413; Ambulance Fund: $53,890; Sanitation Fund: $38,095; and others for a total of $617,494. August revenues by fund included General: $39,717; Road Use Tax: $31,975; Water Fund: $119,125; Sanitary Sewer Fund: $86,911; Sanitation Fund: $68,115; and others for a total of $489,044.
The meeting closed its public forum without comments and adjourned at 7:20 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
