Mayor Paul Eberline opened a council discussion on proposed local rules for mobile food vendors and special events at the Aug. 18 Grundy Center City Council meeting.
The council reviewed draft Ordinance 586, which would add Chapter 125 to establish definitions, licensing requirements, fees and restrictions for mobile food service vendors, including use of city parks. Council members also reviewed draft Ordinance 587, proposed as Chapter 126, which would require a special-event permit when an event includes a street closure, use of public or privately restricted property, sale of food or merchandise, uses of tents or stages, portable toilets, temporary signage or fireworks/open flames.
Under discussion were permit-fee options presented to the council: a mobile vendor permit at $50 per month or $150 per calendar year, and a special-event permit at $250 per calendar year. The drafts tie vendor permits to special-event oversight and include park-specific rules that could affect events that use Belpre Park and other public spaces.
Mayor Eberline suggested further discussion at a future meeting; the council took no formal action or vote on either ordinance at this session. The matter will return for additional review before any ordinance is introduced for adoption.
