Commission approves conveyances and authorizes RFPs for city parcels

At its Feb. 17 meeting the Hammond Redevelopment Commission approved two resolutions to accept conveyance of property from the Board of Public Works — 952 State Street (Resolution No. 2026-1) and 7236 Grand Avenue (Resolution No. 2026-2) — both described as transfers for future residential redevelopment. Each resolution passed on a 5–0 roll call.
The commission also authorized staff to advertise requests for proposals for commission-owned parcels at 6204–6208 Kennedy Avenue and 6129–6131 Calumet Avenue. Staff said the Kennedy parcel currently houses a tenant interested in purchasing the building; the Calumet parcel is vacant. Commissioners approved authorization to advertise the RFPs by unanimous roll call.
Separately, the commission opened one response to a prior RFP for the state-owned parcel north of 1 State Street. Hans David Gramke, identified as Hansco Diversified LLC and owner of adjacent property, offered $1,000 to correct an encroachment and consolidate title. The commission referred that response back to staff for follow-up and possible purchase agreement review at a future meeting; the referral passed 5–0.
