The Ambulance Department informed the Emergency Services Committee on May 26 that Laurel EMS handled 110 requests for service in the reporting period and is making several operational and staffing changes.
Ambulance Chief Lyndy Gurchiek reported that Wendy Wong has been named Assistant Chief. The department added a sliding equipment shelf to the QRU and ordered an oxygen lift for Care 3 to reduce lifting injuries. The department also submitted its budget to Kelly and requested an exhaust system for the FAP; the transcript does not define the FAP acronym.
The department said it continues to pursue grants (including a pending appropriations request routed through Congressman Downing) and is monitoring a separate Town Pump Fire House Subgrant and a Lowe’s grant application. Staff noted community outreach activities, including participation in a high-school career fair. Gurchiek told the committee that Laurel EMS was presented the Montana Child Passenger Safety Technician update award for “Fitting Station of the Year,” an honor credited to the work of Mandi.
The committee did not take formal action on capital purchases at the May 26 meeting; ambulance leadership said they will discuss future capital expense purchases with the appropriate staff and budget reviewers.
