Commissioners approve rezoning of 45.62 acres in Swift Creek Township for rural residential use

The Pitt County Board voted unanimously Feb. 16 to rezone 45.62 acres (Parcel 21731) from Rural Agricultural to Rural Residential at the request of property owner Christopher E. Sutton; Planning staff and the Planning Board recommended approval.
The Pitt County Board of Commissioners approved a rezoning request by Christopher E. Sutton to change 45.62 acres (Tax Parcel 21731) at the southeast corner of County Home Road (SR 1725) and Ivy Road (SR 2241) in Swift Creek Township from Rural Agricultural (RA) to Rural Residential (RR).
Jonas Hill of the Planning Department presented the staff report noting the property is designated Rural Residential in the Envision Pitt County 2045 Land Use Plan and that the Planning Board recommended approval 11–0. Christopher Sutton, who said the land has been in his family for generations, told the board the rezoning would allow modest additional housing for family members and "is not to develop the land, simply to add housing for additional family members." Chairman Mark Smith declared the public hearing closed before the motions.
Commissioner Chris W. Nunnally moved to adopt the consistency statement and approve the rezoning; Commissioner Gary Weaver seconded both motions. Both motions passed unanimously.
