Madelia council approves well pay request, ordinance updates, variance and land transfer

The Madelia City Council voted unanimously on a package of routine measures, approving payment to contractors, amending local signage rules and clearing two land-related items.

A council member moved to approve pay request No. 7 for work on well No. 4 and well No. 6 to contractor companies in the amount of $50,728.10; the project was reported to be about 92% complete. The motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote.

Council members then moved and approved an amendment to Ordinance 153. As part of that action the council voted to repeal section 12 of the ordinance (the provisions governing signs) and to replace it with updated language. The council directed that the new sign language be posted for 30 days; the updated section is slated to take effect on July 23rd after the 30-day posting period.

Separately, the council approved a variance request for Gage Avenue Southeast after a motion and second and authorized a land transfer from 2001 for parcel 17.278.0290 in a subsequent vote. Each of those items carried on voice votes.

All recorded motions during the meeting were carried by voice vote; the meeting record reflects five members saying "aye" on earlier votes. The meeting adjourned after the routine business was completed.

The actions taken are procedural approvals and do not, in themselves, change the effective dates or enforcement processes beyond what was stated on the record; the council noted the sign language will be posted publicly for the required period before taking effect.
