Connersville Parks Board sets March 28 River’s Edge groundbreaking, expands adult and wellness programs

The Connersville Parks and Recreation Board announced on Feb. 23 that a groundbreaking ceremony for new baseball fields at River’s Edge is scheduled for Saturday, March 28. Parks Superintendent Marla Steele said the project is being funded through a bond and the department will hold the public ceremony the same day as its annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Steele told the board that the Whitewater Career Center’s Sports Science class will lead a balance-focused session for the department’s Living Well, Aging Well (LWAW) program in March and April, and that a Sports Science student will job-shadow LWAW twice a week and assist with March event preparations. Steele also said the department is expanding adult offerings with a new “Rec & Connect 18+” series that will include open-gym volleyball nights on March 5, March 19 and March 26 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Assistant Superintendent Kelly Moffett briefed the board on LWAW attendance and upcoming health programming: a Reid Table Talk on March 4 and a Balance and Mobility class led by Whitewater Career Center on March 6 from 12:30–1:30 p.m. Moffett also said nine lifeguards are signed up for certification at Miami University in April and reminded residents that pool-party dates are filling quickly.
Sports Director Logan Neukam reported the boys’ basketball season is finishing, with the final day of tournament games on Feb. 28 at CHS Field House, and that spring soccer registration closed with 377 registrants — a modest decline from the prior year — noting the department still needs coaches and referees. Neukam said summer youth volleyball and adult sand volleyball registration are now open.
The board did not take a separate vote on the River’s Edge ceremony; Steele presented the schedule and programming updates during her department report. The Parks Department is posting calendars online and distributing printed schedules at the office; residents are encouraged to contact the park office to volunteer or donate prizes for the Easter Egg Hunt.
