Calhoun County supervisors approve building and service contracts, honor longtime county employee

Chairman Dave George and the board approved a $16,200 contract with Pajic Tuckpointing LLC for tuckpointing work on the Public Health Building after Scott Jacobs moved and Cory Ridgely seconded the motion; the vote was recorded as "Ayes all." The board also authorized the chair to sign a Service Agreement to participate in the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC) HIPAA Program effective July 1, 2025, on a motion by Jacobs seconded by Ridgely; that motion passed unanimously.
Nick Buse, Calhoun/Sac County Engineer, told the board that Midwest Contractors, Inc. will be used for the county's 2025 Portland cement concrete (PCC) patching program. The board approved drainage-related items including payment of drainage invoice No. 9481 to Wieston Ag and work order C-24-2025; both motions carried with all supervisors voting in favor.
Facilities Director Dewey Snyder reported that Annex 1 is a little more than half complete, said the county will purchase new flower pots for the courthouse square, and that staff are seeking quotes for elevator repairs. Bruce Musgrave, EMS Director, reported that recent state inspections of EMS had no discrepancies or infractions and said staff are preparing an "EMS Essential Services" presentation (the timing and audience were not specified in the record).
The board presented Mike Moeller, assistant to the engineer and county safety officer/zoning and floodplain administrator, with a certificate marking 35 years of county service; Moeller's retirement date is June 6, 2025.
Supervisors also approved a memorandum of understanding between Calhoun County and New Opportunities for fiscal year 2025–26 and approved the county's FY 2025–26 agreement with the Family Crisis Center. A teleconference with Pocahontas County was held to approve watchman services on Joint Drains Districts 1-54 Br 4A and 72-40 Br A; the minutes note that full details are available in the auditor's office upon request.
