Council approves Hudson Days closures, Cedar Valley Soccer field use; resident seeks trail signage and park wood reuse

The Hudson City Council on Aug. 12 approved permits and resolutions to support community events and youth sports and heard a resident’s request about trail safety and park wood reuse.
Council approved Resolution 3260 authorizing road closures for Hudson Days, including a bean‑bag tournament scheduled for Sept. 24. Members said the event is a community fundraiser and supported facilitating the event.
The council also approved Resolution 3261 allowing Cedar Valley Soccer to use the city’s upper soccer and kickball fields after presenters described expanded participation. Representatives said the organization has about 171 children across 22–23 teams and that current practice fields are inadequate; council members asked about previous field locations and the geographic mix of participating towns and approved the field use request.
During the citizen‑comment period, resident Matthew sto asked the council to place signage along a popular trail near the small gas station asking trail users to announce themselves when approaching from blind spots to avoid surprising dog walkers. He also suggested that wood taken from city tree removals be cut, split and made available in parks for small, controlled fires and offered to help organize the work if the council approved the concept.
Council members thanked the resident and approved the event and field requests; staff and council indicated they would consider the resident’s proposals and follow up on logistics such as liability, fire rules and how removed wood is currently handled.
