Connersville parks board reports strong youth participation, readies pools and fields for summer

Steele outlined facility preparations: mowing season is underway, pool passes are available at the parks office, and the Whitewater Career Center has poured concrete for two new cabanas slated to be finished before pool opening. She also said concrete walkways have been installed in both dog parks and Summer Discovery Day Camp registrations are open.
Assistant Superintendent Kelly Moffett said recreational and senior classes are seeing steady participation. "Our Crochet class averages 10–12 people and Chair Yoga regularly draws 25 or more," Moffett said. On pool staffing, Moffett reported 20 lifeguards completed Red Cross training April 17–19, five were recertified on April 19 and 12 concessions/admissions staff are in place for the season.
The parks sports update, recorded in the minutes under Parks Sports Director Logan Neukam's report, listed participant counts by division: coaches-pitch baseball 119, kids-pitch 60, 3–4 T-ball 95, 5–6 T-ball 89 and coaches-pitch softball 50. Fast-pitch softball was cancelled because only 10 players registered. Opening Day is scheduled for May 23 with a noon parade leaving the Apex Golf Arena parking lot; staff said the parade route is "still waiting for approval from BOW" as noted in the minutes.
The board acknowledged a local fundraiser led by Nash Hentz that raised $3,369 to support the youth baseball/T-ball/softball programs. The board approved routine items during the meeting, including claims and payroll, by recorded unanimous vote; the minutes show motions and "all in favor" for these procedural approvals.
