Groundbreaking set May 27 for Roberts Park inclusive playground, skatepark and walking trail

Construction has already begun at Roberts Park, and the Connersville Parks and Recreation Board announced a groundbreaking ceremony for the site on May 27 at 3:30 p.m., Parks Superintendent Marla Steele said at the board’s May 26 meeting.
The project will include an inclusive playground designed for a range of ages and abilities, a skatepark/pump track and a walking trail, Steele said. The board described the ceremony location as “near the playground” and said volunteers and community partners have already helped prepare park facilities for the work.
Steele also highlighted recent community involvement that supported park preparations: Spartan Service Day volunteers assisted with the pool house, ball fields and the Rivers Edge canoe launch, and Roots and Hydro donated trees on Earth Day to Frazee Park, Industrial Park, the Soccer Complex and Offutt’s Park.
The board did not provide project cost, contractor or phased construction schedule at the meeting. The project was mentioned as already under way; the board scheduled a public groundbreaking to mark the next step.
