FLOWOOD, Miss. — The Flowood mayor and Board of Aldermen on March 21 approved a broad consent agenda and several personnel and planning items, including contracts for festival entertainment, an insurance renewal, multiple fire department promotions and preliminary plat approval for a subdivision.
The board approved the consent agenda, which included renewal payments and agent changes for property and auto insurance (payment to Wellington Associates recorded at $94,945), authorization for several festival entertainment contracts and a 24-month lease with Harley Davidson of Central Mississippi for four motorcycles at an annual cost of $16,800 (budgeted in the FY 2016 budget). The consent agenda also included a resolution requesting the Mississippi Legislature to pass local and private legislation authorizing the city to enter long-term agreements related to financing and developing a conference center and hotel project.
Fire Chief Jeffrey Welborn requested and the board approved a slate of promotions in the Fire Department: promotion of Travis Armstrong to captain (Step 8); promotion of Kyle Upchurch to captain (Step 9) with a paramedic stipend; promotions of Richard Davis and Andrew Johnson to lieutenant (Step 5); and promotion of James Bond to lieutenant (Step 3). Alderman Kathy Smith moved to approve the promotions; Alderman Deron Harmon seconded and the motions passed unanimously among members present.
Parks and Recreation action included hiring D'moriaun Hicks as Laborer 2 Step 1 on a motion by Alderman Harmon. Public Works Director Garry Miller recommended approval of the Preliminary Plat of Indian Creek Subdivision, Phase 2, Part 3; Alderman Don Flynt moved to approve the plat and the motion passed unanimously.
With no further business, the board adjourned.
