Engineer gives $1.5–$2 million estimate for new municipal maintenance building

Township Engineer Jill Smith briefed the board on preliminary plans for a new municipal maintenance building and provided a cost and schedule outlook on Oct. 14.
Smith said interior garage doors will need to be fireproof, integrated trench drains will require oil separators and an electrical panel with alarm, and some mechanical and electrical components may be bid separately. She estimated electrical and mechanical costs at about $500,000 and the total project between $1.5 million and $2 million, and said consulting services for engineering may exceed current expenditures by roughly $50,000.
The board discussed finalizing plans before soliciting bids; Smith proposed having bid packages ready just before Christmas so contractor selection could occur for construction starting in April and continuing into the fall. The board did not approve a construction contract or specific budget appropriation at the meeting.
Supervisor Mike Sacks and Vice Chair Mark Hilbert both participated in the discussion; Don Hickman indicated staff would work with the engineers to finalize design details prior to the bid release.
