Administrators report PBIS recognition, intervention work and rising summer program participation

School leaders described monthly grade‑level counseling lessons, expanded job‑shadow opportunities for seniors and targeted MTSS approaches to support students needing tier‑2 and tier‑3 interventions.
Educators reported using a mix of interventions—Lexia, FastBridge progress monitoring and a University of Florida‑based resource called UFly for early grades—to support reading and literacy. FastBridge benchmark results cited in the meeting showed examples such as fifth‑grade reading near 73% benchmark and sixth‑grade near 90% in fall data, with some spring declines noted; administrators said they will analyze small cohorts and targeted interventions where a few students can shift percentage points sharply.
Programs and participation: district youth programs include Kids Company (239 registrants this summer, up from 218 last year) and a summer recreation program with 302 participants. District staff said they will hand aquatic classes to the city aquatic center next year because of instructor staffing challenges and are actively recruiting lifeguards and coaches in several sports.
Athletics highlights included Brooklyn Mitchell winning a state shot‑put title and multiple conference championships across baseball, softball and golf. Administrators said coaching evaluations and surveys are underway and that homecoming is scheduled for Oct. 3.
The board heard staffing updates: two remaining high‑school vacancies (building & trades and social studies) and other shared openings districtwide. Staff emphasized ongoing recruitment and said they expect to fill open positions in the coming weeks.
