Rushford Village commissioners ask Council to consider adopting alcohol ordinance; policing concerns raised

The Rushford Village Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 18 voted to bring to the Village Council the question of whether the village should adopt an alcohol/liquor ordinance.
Commissioners noted that CRV currently has no alcohol ordinance; the minutes say Fillmore County drafted a liquor license for a Featherstone Farms customer appreciation event last year but told the village it would not issue further licenses for CRV. Commissioners reviewed a sample ordinance from Whalan as an example.
Commissioner Gordon Johnson raised concerns about how policing and enforcement would be handled if CRV adopted a local liquor ordinance. Johnson suggested the commission should first ask the Council whether it wants Planning & Zoning to draft a village ordinance and, if so, identify the key elements the Council wants included. The commission also discussed whether outside help (Rebecca Charles of CEDA was suggested) might assist in ordinance review.
On a motion by Johnson, seconded by Hamilton Petersen, the commission voted to bring the topic to the Council for consideration and possible directive to Planning & Zoning. The minutes record the motion as carried; no roll call or vote tally is recorded.
