Hudson council adopts package of code amendments and approves volunteer firefighter appointment

The Hudson City Council voted unanimously to adopt a package of third-reading ordinances and to offer a volunteer fire position to a local applicant at its recent regular meeting.

Council approved Ordinances 908 through 915 by roll call votes reported as 4-0. The ordinances amend city code provisions on bond requirements (Ordinance 908), add a section on adult establishments (Ordinance 909), revise sidewalk-liability language (Ordinance 910), update publication requirements for minutes to reflect legislative changes (Ordinance 911), clarify fire-officials’ authority to issue city violation notices (Ordinance 912), adjust pedestrian right-of-way rules (Ordinance 913), amend operating-budget provisions (Ordinance 914), and permit updated rules for electronic meetings (Ordinance 915). The council discussed the minutes/publication change in light of state-level updates and noted some local concern about newspaper reporting as digital posting becomes more common.

The council also approved Resolution 3289 to offer a volunteer position in the Hudson Fire Department to Caitlyn Frany. The council noted the candidate will serve a six-month probationary period during which she will not drive to emergency scenes; the council said she is certified in several medical areas and would be an asset on the EMS side once probation is complete. “Thank you very much for volunteering and we appreciate that very much,” the presiding official said when the council recognized the candidate. Gary (identified in the record by given name) confirmed probation and restrictions and said the candidate would be a promising EMS resource after certification.

Council members briefly discussed department staffing caps and outreach: one council member cited a cap of 40 while another mentioned 33 as the current roster number, and members noted an open house scheduled Oct. 6 to recruit volunteers.
