Orland Park leaders consider stricter rules for e-bikes and e-scooters after local injuries

Officials praised recent state action that restricts younger riders and said the village is crafting local ordinances to prohibit high‑speed or underage operation in certain areas.
Mayor Dodge and the chief suggested stronger local enforcement and possible fines for parents if minors ride dangerously. "Honestly I'd like to find the parents $5,000 if their kids are riding these things," the chief said, describing a local proposal being drafted with the village attorney.
Officials also said enforcement has increased, including additional tickets issued and patrols in problem areas, and that any ordinance changes will be coordinated with public education and the police department's outreach efforts.
No ordinance was adopted at the meeting; officials said they will return with draft language for council consideration.
