Forest City council approves Clark Street closure for Aug. 10 event, awards nuisance‑mowing bid and hears website update

Forest City — At its June 1 meeting the Forest City Council approved several routine business items including a road closure for a community event, a nuisance‑mowing contract and a website progress report.
Councilmember Dan Davis moved and Councilmember Brad Buffington seconded approval of a request from KIOW Radio Station and Hero’s Lounge to close Clark Street on Aug. 10, 2026, for an America 250th event. Councilmembers Karl Wooldridge and Al Stokka abstained; the remaining members voted aye and the motion carried. Council members explained the event will include bingo and a possible bags tournament and is expected to run from about 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The council received one bid for nuisance mowing from Rick Burress at $40 per hour. Councilmember Karl Wooldridge moved and Councilmember Marcia Tweeten seconded approval of the bid; the motion carried unanimously.
Dionne Lopez presented a progress report on the city’s new website and said she will provide additional updates as development continues. City staff then provided routine operational updates; no formal action resulted. During the public forum no members of the public spoke.
A motion to adjourn was offered by Councilmember Marcia Tweeten, seconded by Councilmember Karl Wooldridge; City Clerk Fan Nollan recorded the vote as all ayes and Mayor Ron Holland adjourned the meeting. The council will reconvene for its next regular meeting on June 15, 2026.
