Several residents urged the Town of Greenburgh to avoid forcing law-abiding homeowners into court after they received summonses for leaves and yard debris.
A resident who said the town historically cleared leaves on Hartford Lane for decades said she and neighbors were alarmed after getting certified notices that “you’re gonna be arrested if you don't appear in court,” and asked the board to hold the matter rather than require trial appearances.
Town staff said they would review the summons language and reach out to the prosecutor and the deputy town attorney, Taglia, and the town’s code-enforcement officer. “I have agreed to reach out to our prosecutor, deputy town attorney Taglia to go over this matter a little further and reach out to our code enforcement officer as well,” a staff member said, adding that an adjournment “may be adjourned for good faith purposes of of fixing the issue.”
Board members asked staff to confirm whether the town previously performed leaf pickups in the affected neighborhoods and to document who handled prior pickups. One resident said the town had cleared leaves “for 30, 40, 50 years” and that certified letters this season created undue stress.
The board did not take a formal vote during the public comment but directed staff and the town attorney to investigate whether a court adjournment is available and to report back. That follow-up will determine whether individual court dates proceed.
