Fairmont board sets senior early release and district early‑release day, adopts summer meeting schedule

The Fairmont Area School Board voted May 12 to grant seniors an early last day on Thursday, May 28, 2026, for students who have completed assignments, paid fines, served detention time and are on track to graduate.
Board members said the date was selected to avoid conflicts with sectional golf and track meets and to ensure all students can attend commencement practice. The motion passed on a board voice vote.
The board also approved a district-wide early-release day on Wednesday, June 3, 2026: Fairmont Elementary School will dismiss at 1:00 p.m. and the junior–senior high school at 1:15 p.m. The board noted there will be no afternoon preschool on that day and said it will issue family reminders as the date approaches.
Finally, the board approved a summer meeting schedule with one meeting on June 16 and one on July 14, returning to normal meeting frequency in August. Board members described July as an organizational meeting when annual assignments are typically set.
