Coach and students praise Knowledge Bowl for bringing diverse learners together

Two students who attended the meeting described what the program meant to them. “One of the main reasons why I really enjoyed Knowledge Bowl was because it brought so many students together that you wouldn't think would be together,” student Michelle Scubel said, adding that the activity kept participants off their phones and helped them meet peers from other districts.
Student Thor Olson said Knowledge Bowl was among the most enjoyable activities he has done. “Knowledge bowl has been one of the funnest things I have ever done in my entire life of existing,” he said, describing the social and competitive elements of travel and meet routines.
Coach Smith summarized participation and outcomes: the district fielded 15 students across three teams, competed in multiple meets in southern Minnesota, and frequently finished in the middle of the field with several top‑three placings for the khaki team. She said scheduling conflicts and other activities — including robotics, track, tennis and employment — reduced student availability for some meets and that the season’s qualifying meet conflicted with the state math league, limiting the team’s ability to pursue nationals.
Board members thanked the coach and students and said the speech and competition teams would be invited to a future meeting to share results and recognition.
The board did not take any formal action beyond recognition; the presentation was part of the evening’s celebration and school community reports.
