Martinsville City announced routine holiday closures and a short-term service change, and city staff warned of disruptions to local mail delivery following recent post office scheduling issues.
The presiding officer told attendees, “All non emergency city houses will be closed on Friday, July 3 for the Independence Day holiday. Those who normally have the trash picked up on Friday, and they'll be picked up on Monday, July 6.” The announcement was made during the meeting’s public announcements after the council confirmed there were no public comments that evening.
City staff and the presiding officer also described problems with local mail delivery. A staff member said there were “some discrepancies and some things. They were going to quit delivering mail,” and explained that the holiday schedule left five days for staff and the post office to resolve delivery issues. The city said it posted notices while attempting to coordinate resolution with postal staff.
Officials encouraged residents to sign up for automated alerts by texting the word Martinsville to 78015. The meeting also included a brief mention of an upcoming July 30 lighting segment featuring Ashley Thompson and Jerry Best from Spirit of 45, and a short remark about evening hours at a local roundabout; no formal actions or votes were taken on those items.
City staff indicated they would continue to follow up with postal officials and notify residents through the alert system if there are changes to delivery or collection schedules.
