West Burlington council approves engineering, housing assessment, computer surplus sale and water‑main contract

The West Burlington City Council approved four agenda items related to infrastructure, planning and surplus property at its meeting.

Council voted to enter a professional services and grant‑development agreement with Hidden Prairie Engineering to design and pursue grant funding for a trailhead bio‑retention (stormwater) project. Staff said pre‑applications for water‑quality funding are due on the 21st and that the design would emphasize native plantings and better drainage at the trailhead. The mayor and council approved the agreement by voice vote.

The council also approved an agreement with Iowa State University Extension for a rural housing readiness assessment funded by a $20,000 grant. Staff reported a housing series committee and an orientation in early December to develop recommendations and local projects tied to the grant.

By roll call, the council authorized a resolution to list surplus computer equipment on govdeals.com. Brad told the council the goal is to avoid recycling fees and find local buyers for one laptop and several desktops; he said if items do not sell he may propose giving them away locally.

Finally, the council approved a professional‑services agreement with Snyder & Associates for the Long Meadow (Patline/Pat Klein) water main replacement project. Council members confirmed the project identity before voting; the motion passed on a roll‑call vote.

All four items carried without recorded opposition. Staff said additional details, project timelines and grant applications will be returned to council as they become available.
