Council ratifies fire and police collective bargaining agreements and approves related budget authority

The Edmond City Council on June 22 approved a sequence of collective bargaining items for public-safety employees.
Fire Chief Terry Eshery explained the budget amendment was necessary because negotiations concluded after the city's budget submission; the amendment provides authority to implement negotiated terms. "This amendment is for, to finish up the negotiation process," Eshery said.
Human-resources director Caroline Pierce summarized the agreed changes to contract language and said the documents cover limited updates, additions and deletions. The council approved a three-year collective bargaining agreement with the International Association of Firefighters Local 2359 and a two-year police agreement, including an FOP local agreement. Several councilmembers thanked staff and negotiation teams; all items passed 4–0.
Council asked staff to continue monitoring public-safety funding needs as broader conversations about public-safety budgets continue in the coming years.
