Local health and victim‑services groups ask Marion County for continued support

Johnson described mobile crisis teams, a behavioral urgent care unit and expanded school‑based services, and said Prairie View was requesting an unchanged or modest county appropriation as the county develops its 2027 budget.
Dean Traklias, who identified himself as co‑executive director of an organization recorded in the minutes alternately as “Safe Hope” and “Safe Harbor,” and colleagues described shelter, hotline, crisis intervention and advocacy services for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors across Marion, Harvey and McPherson counties. The presenters said Safe Hope provided 1,620 services to 62 Marion County victims in the prior 12 months, processed 402 hotline calls, and supplied direct aid and therapist sessions; they requested $5,000 from Marion County for FY2027 programming. Traklias emphasized the local demand for crisis services and the organization’s role keeping law enforcement focused on policing duties by responding to behavioral crises.
Board members asked standard budget and program questions. Staff noted organizations would follow up with requested documentation under the county's funding policy; commissioners did not vote on either request during the meeting. Prairie View and Safe Hope indicated they would provide additional budget backup to the county clerk for formal consideration during the budget process.
What happens next: Both organizations will submit requested fiscal documentation for the county’s budget review; any county funding decision will be made through the normal budgeting process later this year.
