Decatur Board approves resignation record, hiring authorization, credit-card rewards policy and neighborhood sign

The Decatur Board of Works handled several routine administrative items including personnel, financial policy and a neighborhood sign request.
The board recorded the resignation of Tony Lowe from the sanitation department and unanimously approved a motion to make the resignation a matter of record. The board then authorized staff (Matt) to advertise and hire for the vacant sanitation position.
The board reviewed a new credit-card rewards policy after consultation with the State Board of Accounts. Under the policy any credit-card rewards redeemable for cash or cash equivalents earned on city department cards must be deposited into the City of Decatur general fund. The board approved the policy by motion and second.
A Mix Avenue resident requested signage for a child crossing area; staff said Decatur’s code of ordinances does not contain a specific table for specialty neighborhood signage and that Public Works approval would permit the sign to be installed. The board approved the sign request and noted ordinances would be followed if needed at a later meeting.
The meeting concluded with a routine motion to adjourn.
