Renton council approves grant applications, franchise resolution and salary-table amendment

Grants and fellowship: Council concurred with staff recommendations to authorize acceptance of a Port of Seattle tourism marketing support award of $20,000 (with a required city match of $10,000); to authorize application to the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) for a $500,000 Washington Wildlife and Recreation local parks grant to support the development of Northeast Renton Park; and to participate in the Bloomberg‑Harvard City Leadership Initiative fellowship, accepting a grant of $295,155 to reimburse placement costs and to fund a limited-term management-analyst position.
Franchise and ordinances: Resolution 4591 authorizing InterMountain Infrastructure Group to locate fiber in the city right‑of‑way was adopted. The council moved the corresponding franchise ordinance to second and final reading at the next meeting. The council also placed and adopted an ordinance amending the 2026 city salary table to reflect July 1, 2026 salary‑grade adjustments under a May 20, 2026 memorandum of understanding with ASME; the ordinance passed following a recorded roll-call second reading.
Planning and other committee items: The planning committee recommended continuing to pool SHB 1406 sales-tax credit funds with South King Housing and Homelessness Partners under the existing interlocal agreement, and forwarded a set of Title 4 docket items (including lot splitting, impervious-surface rules, multifamily property tax exemptions and ADU covenant release) to the planning commission for review.
Procedure and next steps: Most motions were approved by voice votes with the record indicating occasional 'nay' responses; the transcript records the council’s verbal concurrence on the listed committee reports and the adoption of the key resolutions.
