Calhoun County Board adopts FY 2025-26 budget; approves bridge restrictions and salaries

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors on April 22, 2025 adopted the county’s FY 2025‑26 budget and approved several infrastructure and personnel measures during a regularly scheduled meeting at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Rockwell City.
At a public hearing opened at 9:45 a.m., Chairman Dave George, Vice Chairman Cory Ridgely and Supervisor Scott Jacobs heard no public comments or filed objections. The board closed the hearing at 9:54 a.m. and adopted the budget by Resolution 2025‑07, authorizing the chair to sign the document. The resolution and the full budget are available for review in the Auditor’s Office.
In the same meeting the board approved Resolution 2025‑08 imposing weight restrictions on various county bridges and authorized the chair to sign. The board also approved a quote from Denco Highway Construction Corp. for Class‑A bridge deck repair and authorized the chair to execute the quote, allowing the county to proceed with the planned repairs.
The board approved Resolution 2025‑06 establishing elected officials’ salaries for FY 2025‑26; the resolution is on file in the Auditor’s Office. The board further approved the EMS Association By‑Laws after an update from Bruce Musgrave, Calhoun County EMS Director, and authorized the chair to sign that document.
Theresa Hildreth, Calhoun County Economic Development Director, told the board the county received a $10,000 Boost Grant; the county will provide a $5,000 match. Nick Buse, Calhoun/Sac County Engineer, briefed the board on departmental items and requested permission to hire a full‑time summer intern for 10 weeks in the Engineering/Secondary Roads department.
The board also held a teleconference with Pocahontas County concerning Joint Drainage District 9‑13; minutes of that discussion are available in the Auditor’s Office. Treasurer Lori Erkenbrack updated the board on the public bidder process.
Finally the board reviewed and allowed claims checks 79124–79228, bank drafts DFT0004900–0004938 and stamped warrants 505839–505842 as endorsed. The meeting adjourned with the next regular meeting set for Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.
