Glassport updates sewer work, completes underground-tank removal; bids set for channeling wall

Council Vice President Mark Stecak’s report, read by Council President Anthony Colecchi, said, "The DEP mandated removal of the Under Ground Storage Tank at the Public Works Garage has been completed. We are waiting on the results of the soil samples to find out if the soil has been contaminated and if so, it will need to be remediated." That soil-sample testing will determine whether further environmental remediation is necessary.
The borough reported that Edge AI is televising 22 miles of sewers; staff flagged limited manhole access and a 10-foot crushed sewer section as obstacles. The televised-inspection contract cost was reported as $290,400. Separately, staff said the diffuser-replacement project at the sewage plant is nearly complete and that the aeration-tank bypass performed smoothly.
Council also announced that the channeling-wall replacement at the wastewater treatment plant was advertised in the Mon Valley Independent on Sept. 25, with bids opening Oct. 18 in council chambers and the award scheduled for the Nov. 19 council meeting.
Next steps: the borough will review bid results on Nov. 19 and circulate soil-sample findings once available; any required remediation would trigger additional planning and budget action.
