Crawford County commissioners approve letters of support, street closure and set budget work sessions

During its June 9 meeting, the Crawford County Board of County Commissioners approved several procedural items and scheduled future work sessions.
County Counselor Jim Emerson asked the board to approve a letter of support for Crawford County Mental Health Center’s Southeast Kansas Veteran’s Resource Hub to assist a grant application. On motion (26-272) of Commissioner Tom Moody and the second of Commissioner Carl Wood, the board authorized the chairman to sign the letter. Yeas: Commissioners Moody, Wood and Blair.
Emerson also reported that Kansas Crossing Casino gaming revenue for the first five months of the year is "right on track" and consistent with expectations.
The board approved the temporary closure of 230th on July 4, 2026 from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM (motion 26-273, moved by Commissioner Moody, seconded by Commissioner Wood). Yeas: Commissioners Moody, Wood and Blair.
Early budget work sessions were scheduled: midmonth bills and payroll on June 12; a June 12 work session with Communications Director Tim Mikrut and Sheriff Billy Tomasi; Road and Bridge and Mental Health budget sessions on June 16; a budget work session on June 23 at 9:00 AM; and a June 26, 2026, 9:00 AM work session with insurer Bukaty (after the meeting) to discuss insurance. Commissioners also approved two executive-session recesses on personnel and legal matters (motions 26-271 and 26-274) during the meeting; both sessions reconvened with no action taken. The board adjourned at 12:06 PM.
