At the June 12 meeting the Crawford County Board of Commissioners set a series of work sessions, heard a scheduling update on zoning recommendations, discussed expediting sheriff’s sales and reviewed plans for anticipated railroad track closures.
County Clerk Lisa Lusker outlined upcoming work sessions: June 16 (IT Director Brandon Spaur on budget), June 23 (Maintenance Director Aaron Crozier at 9:00 AM and County Attorney Reina Probert at 9:30 AM) and a Bukaty insurance presentation on June 26 at 9:00 AM.
County Counselor Jim Emerson and Zoning Administrator May Smith said Mr. Joshua Albin plans to present drafted zoning regulations; the Planning and Zoning Board’s official recommendation will be presented either July 7 or July 10. Commissioner Carl Wood said he opposes bundling countywide zoning in with other regulation items and pressed for the ability to vote on pieces separately; Emerson said the recommendations can be voted on in parts but advised against commissioners contacting zoning board members directly.
Commissioner Carl Wood said he and Emerson will contact the company conducting sheriff’s sales to obtain a schedule and move sales forward. Commissioner Bruce Blair said Sign Foreman Dale Shireman reported two track closures around June 18–19 near 126th and Highway 47; Shireman is preparing signage and detour plans to reduce traffic impacts in nearby communities.
During the meeting the board recessed twice into closed executive sessions. Motion 26-277 provided for a 15-minute session to discuss non-elected personnel (Health Department Director applicants) under K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(1). Motion 26-278 provided for a 15-minute attorney-client session on the district court contract under K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(2). Both sessions returned to open meeting with no formal action recorded.
Clerk Lusker also presented a package of motions for signature that included approval of ImageTrend EMS software, a letter of support for a Veterans Resource Hub from Crawford County Mental Health Center, and a July 4 closure of 230th; the minutes present those items as motions in the packet. The meeting adjourned at 10:55 AM.
