Crawford County commissioners adopt disaster proclamation for storm damage, vacate Opolis street and approve administrative motions

County Counselor Jim Emerson presented a resolution asking residents to report storm-related damages and framed the action as a response to “significant flooding experienced recently resulting in damage to the county,” which the board adopted as Resolution #2026-023 (motion 26-285). The vote was recorded as Yeas: Commissioners Blair, Moody and Wood; the motion prevailed.
Separately, the board opened and closed a public hearing on vacating part of Walnut Street in Opolis, with Emerson saying the vacation “does not landlock anybody” and reporting no public comments. The board adopted Resolution #2026-022 (motion 26-284) to close and vacate the specified portion of Walnut Street; that motion passed with Yeas recorded as Commissioners Moody, Blair and Wood.
On routine administrative business the board approved several motions listed earlier in the meeting. The county approved payment of $38,250 for a Judicial Center study (motion 26-279) and approved a Quit Claim Deed to Scotty Overman (motion 26-276) as presented by the County Clerk.
IT Director Brandon Spaur reported that server replacement quotes have risen “by 144% due in part to the demand” and presented a vendor quote of $38,976.81 to replace the county server and support the conversion. On motion 26-288, the board approved purchasing the server from Huber & Associates, Inc. for $38,976.81 and authorized the chairman to sign; the vote was recorded as Yeas: Commissioners Blair, Moody and Wood.
The board also approved publication of a Notice of Intent to vacate streets and alleys in the South Radley Addition and scheduled a public hearing on that matter for July 14, 2026 (motion 26-286). The meeting concluded with scheduling several upcoming budget work sessions and the board’s adjournment at 11:30 AM.
Next steps: the county will accept storm damage reports as described by Emerson and proceed with the scheduled public hearings and planned budget work sessions to advance related administrative and zoning matters.
