Residents report recurring flooding at Pinehurst monument; board directs engineer to inspect

Residents at the River Ridge Community Development District’s July 23 meeting pressed the board to address continuing drainage and ponding near the Pinehurst monument and a nearby retention pond.
Shari Perkins, a resident, said the drainage issues have persisted a week after a plugged drain and described water overflowing in the triangle monument area; she relayed that resident Fred Kronke reported a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 that appears nonfunctional and had water nearly 1 foot above the drain. Perkins said she would provide photographs and video of the ponding to district staff.
District Engineer John Baker explained the prior intervention: plugging an inlet stopped water from one system that had been backing up into a lower system, but it left water with nowhere to discharge. “The inlet was plugged, which means there is no longer a pushing action with water coming out; however, there is no place for the water to go and it is essentially akin to a very tiny pond in a pipe,” Baker said, and recommended additional study to resolve the issue if flooding is observed.
A board member asked whether any video shows water bubbling out of the drain; Perkins said she has photographs and will obtain video footage for staff. The Board directed the District Engineer to view the drainage firsthand and asked staff to accept and review Perkins’s photos and video.
Resident Ed Nowak asked where the northern outflow on Pinehurst Greens Drive discharges. District Manager Chuck Adams responded that the pipes route to the Estero River, running between houses, across the golf course and into the ditch that leads to the River Club, and that the system ultimately ties into the Estero River.
No formal motion or funding decision was made at the meeting; Mr. Baker indicated that resolving the problem will likely require further study and possibly engineering work. The board placed a related inlet-estimate item (MRI Construction Estimate #C060-24) on a future agenda for review.
