Bradley County Commission sanctions America 250 committee, approves LexisNexis subscription and tables beer‑permit change

During its Feb. 18 voting session, the Bradley County Commission approved several administrative items and took action on a proposed beer‑permit rule change.
The commission unanimously approved Resolution 2025‑01 to officially sanction the Bradley County America 250 Committee and authorize the county to receive and distribute an estimated $25,000 in state funds to support 2026 commemorative programming. The resolution includes a list of committee members and names the county as fiscal agent; Commissioner Bill Winters made the motion, and Commissioner Cindy Slater seconded. Vote: 14–0.
Also on the agenda, Commissioner Cindy Slater moved and Commissioner Josh Rogers seconded Resolution 2025‑02 permitting the county mayor to negotiate a three‑year subscription with LexisNexis for legal research for the Bradley County Attorney’s Office at a specified monthly schedule ($200/mo year 1; $210/mo year 2; $221/mo year 3). The resolution passed unanimously.
A proposed change to the county’s beer permit application procedures (Resolution 2025‑03) was offered by Commissioner Howard Thompson to forbid off‑premises package sales within 185 feet of schools, churches and public gathering areas. Commissioner Louie Alford moved to table the resolution for further discussion; on roll call the motion to table passed 10–4. Commissioners subsequently voted to send Resolution 2025‑03 to the Legal & Legislative Committee to review the proposal with County Attorney Crystal Freiberg before returning to the full commission.
Other administrative votes included approval of minutes and several consent‑agenda items (budget amendments, acceptance of Carolina Lane into county maintenance, and a petition to abandon an Eleanor Drive right‑of‑way) recorded in the meeting packet. Chairman Thomas L. Crye adjourned the meeting at 1:02 P.M.
