Nance County advances road repairs, FEMA flood projects and engineering agreement; to advertise two part-time road positions

Fullerton, Nebraska — At its June 9 meeting, the Nance County Board of Supervisors heard road and infrastructure updates from Highway Superintendent Tony Bernt, approved an engineering services agreement for project BRO-7063(9) and authorized advertising for two part-time positions in the Road Department.
Bernt told the Board that Beckstrom Construction is working on a fiber project on N 545th and will begin work on West County Road. A FEMA project on Valley Road is active and, weather permitting, is expected to be finished by the end of the week. The county also received a payment tied to a 2024 flood project on N 200th; Bernt reminded the Board that remaining 2024 FEMA flood projects must be completed by October 2026.
Board discussion included the use of gravel stockpiles and the options for nearby gravel pits. Supervisors moved to advertise for two part-time road-department positions to support ongoing work; the motion was moved by Supervisor Darren Nelson, seconded by Supervisor Steve Crouse and approved in the recorded roll-call vote.
Loup Ferry Township officials appeared to discuss a previously tabled N 200th road segment (approximately 0.29 miles leading to the Usasz property). The township agreed to have the County perform specified road work (ditch establishment, finishing to county specifications, seeding to prevent erosion, rock and gravel) and to budget to reimburse the county. The County surveyor will examine right-of-way boundaries and the County Attorney indicated reimbursement terms would be placed in an agreement or added to the county-township road agreement. The township must hold a meeting to request reclassification of the road from minimum maintenance to a regular township road before work and reimbursement proceed.
The Board also received Preliminary Engineering Services Agreement No. 2 between Nance County and Speece Lewis Engineers, Inc. for project BRO-7063(9) Genoa Northwest and approved Resolution #26-6 authorizing the chairman to sign the agreement. The full resolution and the agreement are available for public inspection in the County Clerk's office.
The Board adjourned after completing the day's business.
