The Oakdale City Council on June 23 publicly thanked outgoing City Administrator Chris Vulkers for six years of service and introduced Kelly Baja as the city's new administrator.
Mayor Kevin Zabel led an extended tribute describing Vulkers' tenure since 2020, citing leadership through the pandemic, the completion of a new public works facility and ongoing capital projects including the police department expansion and city hall remodel. "Her impact comes through her work and her experience," Zabel said, urging the community to join in thanking Vulkers.
City Attorney Rachel and multiple colleagues offered personal thanks. Vulkers addressed the council and community, reflecting on starting during the pandemic and thanking staff for their resilience: "I have a deep admiration for the staff that showed up every day with resilience, professionalism, and care for the community," Vulkers said. Vulkers listed accomplishments including the new public works facility and noted pride in the city team's culture and continuity.
Mayor Zabel introduced Kelly Baja, who joined the council meeting as the new city administrator. Baja said she is "thrilled to be here" and looks forward to serving Oakdale and meeting residents at upcoming events. The council closed the meeting after approving the evening's business and invited attendees to Summerfest events.
