Nance County Board approves $8,000 settlement offer, OKs event liquor license and endorses BEAD broadband letter

Fullerton, Nebraska — The Nance County Board of Supervisors on June 9 approved issuing a Special Designated License to Ol'Ironsides, LLC for an event at The Barnyard, voted to offer $8,000 to settle a pending copyright claim and authorized county officials to sign a BEAD broadband letter urging state action.
Board members first approved the meeting agenda and May 26, 2026 minutes and later approved salary and claims. The Board then took up a liquor license application from Ol'Ironsides, LLC; the motion to issue the Special Designated License was moved by Supervisor Robert Voichoskie and seconded by Supervisor Scott Russell and was approved by the Board.
The Board debated a copyright settlement with the event applicant. The county had previously authorized a $7,000 payment; the applicant countered with a $9,000 final offer. Supervisor Ralph Horacek moved to offer $9,000, but that motion failed on roll call: AYE — Horacek; NAY — Voichoskie, Nelson, Crouse, Russell, Ditter and Cornwell. Horacek then moved to offer $8,000; that motion passed on roll call with AYES — Horacek, Crouse, Voichoskie and Nelson; NAYS — Russell, Ditter and Cornwell. County Attorney Rod Wetovick will continue negotiations and follow up with any required settlement documentation.
Separately, the Board discussed a proposed letter related to the federal BEAD (Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment) program and directed that the Board Chairman, the County Sheriff and the Region 44 Emergency Manager be authorized to sign the letter urging Governor Pete Ricketts' successor to allocate BEAD non-deployment funds toward improved broadband connectivity and interoperability across Nebraska. The motion to authorize signatures was moved by Supervisor Darren Nelson, seconded by Supervisor Steve Crouse and carried with the standard roll-call vote recorded in the minutes.
The Board adjourned after approving the day's business. The County Clerk's office retains the full settlement correspondence and the resolution language for public inspection.
