The Dubois County Council on April 28 approved a package of appropriations for highway and local road work that together total over $1 million.
Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken requested and the council approved $90,000 from Highway Restricted Supplies for bituminous (motion by Sonya Haas, seconded by Ryan Craig) and $810,000 from Highway Restricted Capital Outlay for paving projects (motion by Ryan Craig, seconded by Alex P. Hohl). Both motions carried unanimously.
For local road work the council approved $70,000 from Local Road & Street Supplies for stone (motion by Ryan Craig, seconded by Meredith I. Voegerl) and two $200,000 requests from Local Road & Street Other Services — one for bituminous and one for paving projects (motions by Ryan Craig, seconded by Sonya Haas and Meredith Voegerl respectively). All were carried unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting the council discussed the imminent departure of County Engineer Brent Wenholt (effective May 2) and the need to advertise an additional appropriation not to exceed $20,000 for a salary increase for a replacement; Auditor Sandra L. Morton will prepare an amended salary ordinance. Council referenced Indiana Code 8‑17‑5‑10, which provides a $40,000 grant‑in‑aid subsidy when a county certifies a full‑time Highway Professional Engineer.
The appropriations were recorded as motions and unanimous votes in the minutes; the council did not record further debate on project specifics at the meeting.
