Eveleth council approves appointments, backs Brownfields grant and funds community center and airport equipment

EVELETH — The Eveleth City Council on Jan. 5 approved a slate of routine appointments and administrative actions and voted to underwrite equipment and readiness costs the city says are needed for near-term operations.
The council reappointed Steven Taft to the golf course commission, designated Hometown Focus as the city’s official newspaper, and affirmed Myers National Bank as the city depository and its list of authorized signatories. The council also adopted a resolution appointing Pat Oman as the city’s responsible authority for records and data requests under the applicable statute (referred to in the meeting as "statute 1302 subdivision 16"). Members discussed whether department chiefs should be separately designated for data releases; staff said department chiefs would continue to handle requests for their own records while the city administrator functions as the central responsible authority.

Other business: Council approved routine payroll and claims items, rescheduled the Jan. meeting to Jan. 21 because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and accepted a no-cost offer from the Minnesota Wilderness hockey organization to place the city name on team jerseys as a gesture of partnership.
