Commissioners approve highway change orders, culvert work and funding request for stream crossing repair

Highway Engineer Levi Leffert updated the commissioners on multiple highway projects and the board approved several actions.

Leffert said E&B completed paving at two locations and presented change orders for two projects (25-03 decrease of $2,935.95 and 25-04 decrease of $3,985.07). Commissioners moved to approve the change orders, which were duly seconded and carried.

Leffert reported the 300 N box culvert is complete and the roadway reopened, and Club Road is closed for replacement of a metal culvert with a 12-by-8-foot concrete box culvert—work that could last four to five weeks depending on weather. He noted Lady Bridge #78 preliminary plans are being reviewed with American Structurepoint for a design this fall and construction next spring/summer.

At 1025 S near Holland Road East, previously considered aluminum or bridge replacements were estimated to cost roughly $100,000; Leffert recommended an in-house concrete crossing estimated at $30,000–$35,000 and tabled the item for further review. For 850 W in Cass Township the road is closed due to unsafe conditions; Leffert recommended an in-house concrete replacement estimated at $20,000–$23,000 and commissioners approved proceeding pending County Council funding.

Leffert also said he performed a speed study for Industrial Park Road and recommended keeping the current 45 mph speed limit; Commissioner Blessinger will inform the Town of Ferdinand. Soil borings for the Crossvine Solar project are ongoing and Leffert plans to meet with AES to discuss road use agreements.
