The Dubois County Commissioners fined property owner Robert Slotten $1,000 and authorized county officials to prepare a scope of work to solicit quotes to remove a dilapidated building at 5398 E Main Street.
Commissioner Chad A. Blessinger and County Attorney Gregory S. Schnarr updated the board on enforcement under Dubois County Ordinance 2018-02. The board had previously issued a $500 fine on June 16, 2025 and gave Slotten until July 2, 2025 to bring the property into compliance. Health Department Environmental Specialist Christina Pierini and Administrative Director Shawn Werner told the board no progress had been made and Slotten failed to appear at the status hearing.
On July 7 the board moved to assess an additional $1,000 fine, payable in full within 30 days to the Dubois County Auditor’s Office, and authorized county officials to prepare a scope of work to solicit bids for demolition, removal of the structure and leveling or filling the ground where the building is located. The motion was duly seconded and carried.
The board’s action supplements the earlier $500 fine and directs staff to proceed with procuring remediation services. No contractor was selected at the meeting; the transcript notes county staff will solicit quotes and return with recommendations.
