Chief Robert Byrd introduced and the mayor administered the oath of office for Doug Parker, who was hired in April as a part-time police officer with the Winfield Police Department.
Byrd recounted Parker’s roughly 20-year career with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, noting service in patrol, the K9 division and the training division, and said Parker is a certified law enforcement academy trainer specializing in firearms, emergency vehicle operations and active shooter training. Byrd also noted Parker’s subsequent full-time work with the Valparaiso University Police Department and family ties to local law enforcement.
Mayor Michael Lambert administered the oath and congratulated Parker, and the council offered applause and brief congratulations. The council then moved on to other business.
