Cleveland schedules special hiring meeting; public works reports pump outage and equipment repairs

Councilmember Tonya Schummer told the council employee reviews were completed and interviews are scheduled for nine candidates for a Public Works Helper position; she moved and council approved scheduling a special meeting on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. to approve a new hire and a closed meeting for the Personnel Committee to review evaluations.

Public Works Director Casey Volk reported routine lift-station maintenance checks are complete but one pump at the main lift station remains out of service; a backup pump is available. Volk said two pond valves were installed to reduce leakage, the city dump truck/snow plow is in the shop for repairs, and the loader blade needs bushing and cylinder work with a rebuild possible this summer.

Volk also presented a sewer line-cleaning proposal from Empire for informational and future budget consideration, explaining that the city’s jetting equipment is undersized and cleaning the whole system would be time-consuming without outside help. No decision on the Empire proposal was made; the item was presented for budgeting and planning.

Sarah McCabe reported Cherry Creek Days is planned for Aug. 7–9 with a roll-in, street dance, band, kids carnival, Relay for Life events and a Friday pork chop feed by the Fire Department; Head Bartender Julie O’Malley confirmed upcoming bar events and possible concert scheduling. These community events were informational updates and require further committee work before final scheduling.

The council unanimously approved the special meeting scheduling and discussed follow-up steps for hiring and equipment planning.
